🎪 What is the Feria de Torrox?
Every first weekend of October, Torrox celebrates its patron saints' feria: five days of festivities in honour of the Virgen de las Nieves and San Roque, patron saints of the town. It's the biggest event of the year in Torrox Pueblo, the historic hilltop village just a short drive from Torrox Costa.
As in most Andalusian ferias, each day splits into two very different moods: daytime is for parades, children and equestrian shows in a family atmosphere; at night, the real de la feria comes alive with its casetas (covered marquees), live bands and sevillanas dancing into the small hours.

🕊️ Why October, and not August?
The festival honours two patron saints: the Virgen de las Nieves and San Roque. Yet their official feast day in the Catholic calendar falls on 5 August — the height of summer. So why does the Feria de Torrox take place in early October?
The answer is agricultural. In the past, a large share of Torrox's population left to work the grape and olive harvests on farms in the hinterland over the summer, only returning at the end of September once the work was done. The patron saints' festival was therefore naturally pushed back to their return, in early October — a tradition kept alive to this day, even though the grape harvest has largely disappeared from the local economy.
🐎 Did you know? Horses take centre stage at the feria: a parade of riders in traditional dress, a dressage show and the "carrera de cintas" (a race where riders must catch small rings at a gallop) fill the weekend.
🎉 How the festival unfolds
The feria usually opens on the Wednesday or Thursday with a pasacalle and a parade of gigantes y cabezudos (traditional giants and big-heads), followed by the lighting of the illuminations over the real de la feria — the official signal that festivities have begun.
The following days blend popular tradition with grand spectacle:
- Gathering of coros rocieros — traditional Andalusian choirs, now a firm fixture of the programme
- Desfile ecuestre — a grand parade of horses and riders in traditional dress through the village streets
- Tribute to the elderly — a large communal paella offered in their honour
- Equestrian show — a dressage exhibition on the real de la feria
- Carrera de cintas — a horseback ribbon race, hugely popular with families
- Procession of the Santos Patronos — the Virgen de las Nieves and San Roque are carried in procession, greeted by firework rockets
- Fireworks — usually closing the festival on the Sunday evening
Each night, the casetas on the real de la feria serve tapas alongside live bands and sevillanas dancing late into the night — the mood shifts radically between the family-friendly, traditional daytime and the festive, musical nighttime.
🚌 The free bus from Torrox Costa
You don't need a car to enjoy the feria at night: every year Torrox town hall runs a free bus service linking the coast to the village, with extra "feria" timetables. In the last edition, the route served:
- El Morche (Ford stop) — the route's starting point
- El Peñoncillo — along the old N-340
- Torrox Park — at the first roundabout
- Generación del 27 — then back to the village via the bypass
The buses run in a loop, with departures every hour from 10pm to 5am, Thursday to Saturday (last departure at 3am on Wednesday and Sunday). An enhanced daytime service also runs alongside the usual timetable for the whole feria. Live bus tracking is usually shared daily on the town hall's social media.
🅿️ Good to know: the town hall also opens a large free car park on the Ferrara esplanade (next to the Hotel Iberostar), with a dedicated shuttle to the village — handy if you'd rather leave the car on the coast.
Timetables and stops are confirmed each year by Torrox town hall, usually announced on its social media a few days before the feria — check the latest information before you travel.

A family, local event
Unlike the big tourist-oriented ferias of Seville or Málaga, Torrox's feria remains a neighbourhood celebration — you'll mostly meet residents of the village and the Axarquía, making it an authentic way to discover Andalusian culture away from the summer bustle of the Costa del Sol.
🏡 Where to stay for the occasion
Torrox Pueblo sits about 10-15 minutes' drive from Torrox Costa. In early October, the summer tourist season has just wound down — the region's beaches stay pleasant and far less crowded, making the coast an ideal base for combining beach days with feria nights.

When does the Feria de Torrox take place in 2026?
Traditionally, the Feria de Torrox is held on the first weekend of October. In 2025 it ran from 1 to 5 October. The exact 2026 dates will be confirmed by Torrox town hall during the summer of 2026 — expect the festival to start around 1-4 October.
Why does the Feria de Torrox take place in October rather than August?
The festival is dedicated to the Virgen de las Nieves and San Roque, whose official feast day falls on 5 August. Historically, Torrox residents left to work the grape and olive harvests over the summer and only returned at the end of September, so the festival was moved to coincide with their return, in early October.
Is the Feria de Torrox free?
Access to the real de la feria, the parades, the equestrian shows and the procession is entirely free. Only food and drink inside the casetas and the food stalls are paid.
Where does the Feria de Torrox take place?
In the historic centre of Torrox Pueblo and on the real de la feria, a short walk from the centre. It is not held in Torrox Costa, but the village is only 10-15 minutes' drive from the coast.
Is there a free bus to the Feria de Torrox from the coast?
Yes. Every year the town hall runs a free bus service linking El Morche, El Peñoncillo, Torrox Park and Generación del 27 to the village, with hourly evening departures (typically 10pm-5am, Thursday to Saturday). Free parking with a shuttle is also available at the Ferrara esplanade. Exact timetables are confirmed each year by the town hall on its social media.
