🌊 Playa de Ferrara

East of Peñoncillo, towards Nerja, Ferrara is the quietest beach in Torrox. A long stretch of sand and pebbles, few shops, a wilder feel. Favoured by regulars looking for peace and quiet.

West of Torrox Costa, towards Torre del Mar. These more urban beaches are lined with residential buildings. Less picturesque than Peñoncillo, but handy if you're staying in this area. A few decent beach bars, dark sand, usually calm sea.

💡 Local tip: In July-August, free car parks in Torrox Costa fill up by 10am. Solution: arrive early, or park in Torrox Pueblo and take the bus down (line M-260, 10-minute ride).

🌅 The beaches of Nerja

Nerja, 10 km east of Torrox, has a more touristy feel. Its beaches are busier and better equipped, with more restaurants and water sports on offer. The scenery is also more dramatic: cliffs, coves, crystal-clear water.

🥇 Playa de Burriana

Nerja's most popular beach, and arguably the best equipped in the whole area. A long stretch of sand lined with dozens of beach bars, kayak, paddleboard and jet-ski rentals. Lively atmosphere, music, terraces. This is the spot in Nerja.

A small urban beach right below the Balcón de Europa, Nerja's iconic viewpoint. Right in the town centre, it's the most walkable beach around. Sand and pebbles, several restaurants with sea-view terraces. Very busy in high season.

🌊 Calas de Maro (Cala del Cañuelo, Molino de Papel)

The coves of Maro lie east of Nerja, on the edge of the Parque Natural Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo. Turquoise water, spectacular cliffs, a wild feel. Reachable by car (paid parking in summer) or by kayak from Burriana.

  • Torrox Costa: Free parking along the Paseo Marítimo and Avenida Andalucía. Arrive before 10am in July-August. Paid car parks near the lighthouse (2-3€/hour).
  • Nerja (Burriana): Paid parking at the top of the beach. Full by 11am in summer. Alternative: park in the town centre and walk 20 minutes.
  • Maro: Limited paid parking (5€/day in season). Arrive early or come by kayak.

Water temperature
